Hope, a proud single mum, has raised her 3 beautiful Aboriginal children for the past 32 years and is also a proud grandma. Hope also works as a Nurse providing essential care for patients in the Mid-North Coast, NSW.

Once Hope knew she could achieve her home ownership dreams without the need for a deposit and mortgage insurance, everything changed. She had outstanding success with her savings plans and increased her savings by over 500% in less than 6 months. Hope became more confident and got a promotion at work and was uplifted by the example she was setting for her children and grandchildren.

Upon getting the keys to her new home Hope said:

“I’m overwhelmed with joy and excitement that after all of these years I finally have a forever home. I’m proud that I have set an example for my children and grandchildren and excited that they will also benefit from me having a stable home. Thank you Head Start Homes for helping my home ownership dreams to come true. I really appreciate all of your heartfelt work. A special thanks to Stephen. I’m sure your mum is very proud ”.

Stephen Woodlands, Head Start Home’s Founder and Managing Director said:

“Congratulations Hope - I’m thrilled that you are now a proud homeowner. The inspiring example that you have set has created positive ripple effects which will benefit your children, grandchildren and your community. We have loved every moment supporting you as you passionately turned your home ownership dreams into a reality”.

Not many people know that older women are the fastest-growing cohort of homeless people in Australia today. And for many, it's an unexpected life shock that leads to hopelessness and destitution.

Stephen also said:

“As a proud Grandma, Hope has proven that the Head Start Homes pathway can help solve the homelessness crisis faced by solo mums who are older in age”.

A special thanks to Brooke Flint from Flint Property, who acted as Hope’s Property Coach and helped Hope find her beautiful home at the right price. A big thanks also to Ashley from Ms Deeds Conveyancing for her support with the home purchase.

A big thanks also to everyone who donated funds, including Sunsuper and the Mercy Foundation for providing grant funding. A big thanks also to Community Housing Limited and our wonderful volunteers and staff who have worked tirelessly to help make this major milestone happen.

Finally, a special thanks to St George Bank who provided their Head Start Pledge Home Loan which has best in market interest rates and low fees saving Hope many thousands of dollars over the duration of her home loan.

About Us

We enable community housing tenants to pursue their home ownership dreams, without the need for a deposit, via our Head Start Guarantee and empowerment services. Our home ownership pathway frees up much-need homes for those on housing wait-lists who are likely to be homeless.

Our holistic approach to reducing homelessness and poverty, combined with our cross-sector partnerships, makes us the missing piece in the home ownership puzzle for Australians in need.

We are a not-for-profit social enterprise with a highly experienced volunteer Board. More importantly, we are a community of people who are committed to achieving our vision: a safe and stable home for everyone with fair and practical pathways into home ownership.
