Recycled Phones Help Head Start Homes

Together with Invia, Coates has successfully diverted 555 devices from landfill, generating an incredible $3,444.00 for Head Start Homes.

The positive environmental outcome of the ethical disposal of these end-of-life devices has been amazing. One ton of precious materials has been salvaged, alleviating the strain on the planet’s natural resources; 214kg of harmful greenhouse gas emissions and 360g of air pollutants have also been prevented. These pollutants are a by-product associated with the manufacturing process of new mobile devices.

Thanks to Invia and Coates for your wonderful contribution, also to PhoneCycle for their support in helping to achieve these socially and environmentally conscious outcomes.

Owen Jones, PhoneCycle Managing Director

PhoneCycle Managing Director, Owen Jones, said their purpose was to extend the life of mobile devices, playing their part in the circular economy.

“The priority is to recover and reuse mobile phones, tablets and laptops with minimal impact on the environment,” he said.

“We’re incredibly proud to partner with Invia and Coates by converting their decommissioned devices into funds which have now been donated to Head Start Homes.

“Being able to reuse and repurpose devices that generate funds for charities is a win-win for everyone and is nothing but rewarding!”

Jelena Popovic, Coates IT Service Delivery Manager

Coates IT Service Delivery Manager, Jelena Popovic, said repurposing and recycling IT devices was a meaningful example of the circular economy that Coates championed.

“Our Circular Systems Model keeps equipment and materials in use, fully utilised, maintained and refurbished, and then at end-of-life, repurposes or recycle them. Ultimately reducing waste,” Jelena said.

“Our IT devices follow the same path, with Invia providing solutions to Coates despite our broad national footprint.  I love that these benefits are shared with the community."
