HomeOwnership Success Team members host Reconciliation Workshop on being a voice for Reconciliation

As part of Reconciliation Week, our Home Ownership Success team members, Georgie Jaques and Kate Fenton, along with our guest artist Bianca Bettley, presented a workshop on reconciliation.

The workshop covered topics including acknowledgement of Country, identifying the name of the First Nations land where you reside, and ways people in every community can be a voice for reconciliation.

Georgie Jacques, HomeOwnership Success Team Assistant

For Georgie, the broader Australian population has a role to play in bridging the gap and helping to restore the broken relationship between government and First Nations People.

“The virtues of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness and patience should be embraced to help bring about better reconciliation and restore relationships,” she said.

“For me, this year’s theme, “Be a Voice for Generations’, means a lot personally. I choose to be proactive in promoting and building reconciliation so that the next generation in my family can experience better lives and not become stuck in a cycle of disadvantage.”

Kate Fenton, HomeOwnership Success Manager

Kate said reconciliation is about non-Indigenous people listening and learning from First Nations People and communities.

“It’s also about mutual respect, working alongside each other to have equality and close the gaps between First Nations and non – Indigenous people,” she said.

“This is not just about one week - every day I am learning from First Nations People, teaching my children the truth about Australia’s history and talking to them about the amazing culture, language and history of our First Nations People.”
