Microsoft Shines a Spotlight: Technology with Heart—How AI Helped Kamini Find Her Forever Home
We’re honoured that Microsoft has written and published a feature story about Head Start Homes and our “People before Property” approach. Read the full article by Deborah Bach and Sara Ball here:
At Head Start Homes, we believe home ownership is about people, not just property. Our approach is about restoring dignity, stability, and hope-one story at a time. Kamini’s journey, as told by Microsoft, is a testament to this philosophy.
Kamini, moved 23 times and faced homelessness while raising her son, found her path to home ownership through Head Start Homes. With our support-including financial coaching, mortgage-readiness guidance, and property mentoring—Kamini became an empowered and proud home owner.
“I’ve always felt like my narrative was written by somebody else. Now I’m the author of my own life.”
Kamini’s words capture the heart of what inclusive home ownership means. It’s not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about empowering people to reclaim their stories and futures. When someone like Kamini achieves home ownership, the impact goes far beyond one household. It frees up social housing for another family in need, strengthens communities, and helps break cycles of disadvantage. This is the ripple effect of putting people before property.
Our Empowerment Products and Services—like financial capability support, mortgage readiness, and property coaching—are designed to meet people where they are, walking alongside them every step of the way. For Kamini, this meant not just buying a home, but building confidence, stability, and a sense of belonging.
We’re also proud to share how Microsoft 365 Copilot has helped us extend our impact. By streamlining admin tasks, drafting communications, summarising documents, and researching complex housing regulations, we’ve freed up more time to focus on what matters most-our clients. As our Founder and Managing Director, Stephen Woodlands, shares in the Microsoft article:
“Copilot gives us more time and resources for clients. Without it, we’d be bogged down in admin. It helps us focus on what truly matters-our clients and our communities.”
At Head Start Homes, we believe technology should never replace people-it should empower them. With support from Microsoft, we’ve integrated AI into our operations to boost productivity and increase our capacity for human care.
We are deeply grateful to Deborah Bach and Sara Ball from Microsoft for telling Kamini’s and Stephen’s story with such care, and to Kamini, Amanda Gould, Rhiannan Jenkins, Brady Marcs , Natasha Kahn, and Jo Formosa for their heartfelt contributions. Their voices reflect the courage, compassion, and commitment that drive everything we do. We would like to also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hugh Fenton at Enlightening Films and Christie McGuinness at Temple & Webster for their invaluable contributions to Kamini’s story.
Kamini’s story is just one example of what’s possible when we put people before property. If you believe in a fairer, more inclusive path to home ownership, join us. Together, we can build a future where everyone has a safe place to call home.
