NAIDOC Week 2026 – 50 Years of Deadly

Yesterday, on Thursday 9 July 2026 the Head Start Homes team proudly joined the Koonawarra NAIDOC Family Fun Day to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 and this year's milestone theme, "50 Years of Deadly", recognising five decades of celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, achievements, resilience and leadership.

Representing Head Start Homes at the event were Stephen Woodlands, Pam Jackson, Kate Fenton, Cindy Lee, Natasha Kahn, Linda Bunclark and Kavya Gupta, who spent the day connecting with community members, sharing information about pathways to home ownership and housing support, and celebrating the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

We're also proud to have been located next to our partners from the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) and Services Our Way, reflecting the power of collaboration in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to achieve their housing aspirations and build brighter futures.

It was such a pleasure catching up with some of our amazing clients, including Braydon, one of our Wollongong homeowners. We love sharing time with our clients at community events like this and celebrating their achievements, resilience, and the journeys they've taken to reach their goals.

The theme "50 Years of Deadly" honours the generations of Elders, leaders, advocates and communities who have shaped the NAIDOC movement over the past five decades and continue to inspire positive change for future generations.

At Head Start Homes, we recognise that safe, stable housing forms the foundation for wellbeing, opportunity and self-determination. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate NAIDOC Week alongside community and partner organisations and to continue walking together towards better housing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
